The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
ResponsibilitiesServes as an introduction to potential careers for high school students within a specific department/program. This role is designed for high school students who wish to gain practical experience in a professional work environment. Offers the opportunity to develop valuable workplace skills, explore potential career paths, and contribute to the overall success of the department/program. The work for James McGrath in the McGrath lab will focus on working on research projects related to the Tra Ce and LOMP Centers like running experiments and doing data analysis.
This is for non-credit bearing experiences. This position can only be held while the student is in high school, once they graduate, they will need to move to an appropriate job code or be separated.
- Assist with daily operations and administrative tasks.
- This includes but is not limited to inventory distribution of components of microfluidics to Tra Ce users within the lab and external labs.
- Logging new inventory into the lab system.
- Participate in team meetings and assist with project coordination.
- This includes developing the project outline and timeline for the microplastics research, and presenting experimental findings to the manager and to other groups during all-hands and smaller subcommittee meetings.
- Develop communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Student will come up with experimental conditions and project direction in a written manner to be reviewed with the lab manager, and will then execute on their own with assistance as needed.
- Data will be organized, analyzed, and categorized for easy access for future use.
- The student will solve problems with experimental set-up such as pressure-driven systems and water sample analysis.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- The student will have access to lab specific operations that may not be published and they will maintain a lab notebook that does not leave the lab.
- Findings are shared only with lab members and with others for whom they are relevant.
- Provide support for special projects, as needed.
- The student will help in functions not related to their assigned project as needed, including but not limited to, running experiments or maintaining experiments when lab members are unable.
- The scope of assistance will be limited to the student's training and will not extend beyond it.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Enrollment in High School required Or equivalent combination of education and experience
