Campus Safety Officer (C-Shift)

The Campus Safety Officer (C-Shift) is responsible for ensuring safety and security across the university, responding to emergencies, enforcing laws, and maintaining a positive culture of safety.

• Patrol campus to observe, report, and deter suspicious or criminal activities, and respond to emergencies.
• Initiate appropriate response procedures for major emergencies including medical, mental health, fires, and social unrest.
• Secure buildings in accordance with operating hours and special requests.
• Assist with vehicle lockouts, escorts, and other operational tasks.
• Complete daily activity logs, incident reports, building inspection reports, and other required documentation.
• Issue parking and vehicle violation tickets for infractions on campus.
• Ensure compliance with fire safety codes, conduct fire extinguisher inspections, and maintain safety equipment.
• Identify and report hazards, defects, or safety violations that threaten campus safety.
• Provide courteous, respectful service to students, faculty, staff, and external visitors.
• Support the university’s mission by promoting safety awareness and community engagement.
• Communicate effectively with university members and external emergency services.
• Handle sensitive and confidential data and high‑pressure emergency situations.
• Prioritize multiple tasks and delegate when appropriate.
• Apply good judgment to analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action.
• Maintain strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Valid New York State Security Guard license and driver’s license with a clean driving record meeting the university’s Defensive Driver program standards.
• Certification in CPR/AED, emergency oxygen and first aid, Narcan, crowd management, defensive driving, and campus security authority within 90 days of employment.
• Training in accident/injury response, documentation, investigations, and response to carbon monoxide and oxygen‑deficient alarms.
• Ability to operate radio communication equipment and standard office tools.
• Prolonged physical activity, including walking, standing, lifting, driving, and operating in all weather conditions.

• At least 2 years of experience in customer service, public safety, or a related field.
• Demonstrated capacity for skill development and transferable skills.
