Program Description

The Cornerstone Program, located at Manhatanville Development, provides services for youth from K-12th grade. Program components include academic assistance as well as cultural and recreational activities. The Cornerstone Program is part of the Youth Success branch of Graham
- Windham and offers engaging, youth-centered programming to children and youth throughout NYC.

Principal Objective/Role Overview

The Security/ Fire Guard’s responsibility is to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of all members of the Cornerstone family - participants, staff, and visitors and ensure that building inspections and fire emergencies are reported and followed up for appropriate responsive actions. This position will work to foster positive relationships with students and the learning community while also working in tandem with existing building procedures to maintain order, prevent crime, and assist the building administration with the operations of the Cornerstone and at sponsored events when necessary and appropriate.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensures the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors and the premises. Provide customer service to our clients by carrying out safety and security procedures, site-specific policies and when appropriate, emergency response
  • Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the building, grounds in front the center to deter, stop violations of the center policies.
  • Secures premises and personnel by controlling entry and screening all visitors per district policy.
  • Detects, investigates, and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
  • Monitors surveillance and security panel alarm systems, communicating necessary information for prompt required investigation and facilitating the appropriate emergency response.
  • Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.
  • Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
  • Assists with planning, coordinating and working special events and projects..
  • Makes rapid and appropriate decisions during stressful situations.
  • Responds to incoming security calls according to established procedures.
  • Responds to critical incidents and investigates to determine cause then takes appropriate action.
  • Assists injured persons and determines appropriate action in a timely manner including contacting emergency medical personnel when necessary.
  • Must remain up-to-date on all local and federal codes and regulations
Qualifications
  • This position requires fire safety training S95 fireguard license and F07 fire drill conductor license
  • Documentation regarding High School education is a requirement.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • The individual must be Department of Health Department fingerprinted and cleared prior to employment.
  • State Central Registry Clearance documentation may be required.
  • Full application completion must be received along all documentation requested.
  • Responsible for serving as role models for program participants.
  • The position requires and individual to create, produce and maintain required documentation.
  • The individual must possess quality communication skills that reflect active listening.
  • Being able to empathize with participants and plan appropriate interventions with staff and supervisor is paramount.

  • Base Salary or Hourly Rate: $26.53/Hour
