Diesel Technician

Job Description

Veit is seeking a Diesel Technician to complete repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy‑duty trucks and trailers, and assist in heavy equipment repairs. The position is located in Rochester, MN.

• Perform preventive maintenance on trucks and trailers.
• Diagnose engine, mechanical, fuel, drive train, hydraulic, air, and electric system issues on trucks.
• Use engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Utilize computer systems to diagnose electronic engine issues.
• Repair hydraulic systems and 12‑volt DC electrical systems.
• Fabricate and repair equipment using welding equipment.
• Perform technician work on heavy equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe shop environment.
• Inform supervisor of actions that may affect assignments or company operations.
• Participate in other projects or duties as assigned by management.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of heavy‑duty truck components.
• Experience using diagnostic software.
• Welding experience.
• Ability to adhere to safety rules, policies, and regulations.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with changing priorities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and make repair decisions.
• Willingness to join the union (Local
  49).
• Valid ClassA or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) or willingness to obtain one.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screen and motor‑vehicle record requirements.
• Must be able to work Monday through Friday, with overtime opportunities.

The job may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, stretching, stooping, kneeling, talking, and hearing. Frequently lifts or moves up to 75 pounds and works in various physical positions while working on equipment.

Employees may work alone or with others in a typical shop environment. Exposure to moving machinery, odors, dust, loud noises, and variable weather (rain, snow, wind, cold, heat) is common.
