Commercial HVAC Service Technician Apprentice
The Commercial HVAC Service Technician Apprentice installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in commercial environments such as offices, retail stores, and other business facilities. This role involves working with blueprints and schematics to troubleshoot existing units, perform routine inspections, and ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant standards.
Responsibilities- Inspect and test commercial HVAC systems on a regular basis to verify proper operation and identify potential issues.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in HVAC systems using blueprints, schematics, and appropriate testing tools.
- Repair or replace faulty components and parts in HVAC equipment to restore optimal performance.
- Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, including cleaning, adjustments, and component checks, to extend equipment life and reduce downtime.
- Ensure HVAC systems operate with efficiency and comply with applicable safety and environmental regulations.
- Conduct electrical troubleshooting related to HVAC equipment and associated controls as needed.
- Service boilers and related heating equipment as part of overall HVAC system maintenance and repair.
- Document work performed, including inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities, in a clear and accurate manner.
- Travel to assigned job sites within the service area and manage time effectively to meet scheduled appointments and service commitments.
- Communicate clearly with internal teams and customers about system status, recommended repairs, and maintenance needs.
- 1–5 years of experience in HVAC service in commercial or residential settings.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC servicing, including installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing HVAC system issues, including mechanical and electrical components.
- Proficiency in performing preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment to maintain optimal performance.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- EPA certification for handling refrigerants.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to job sites.
- Experience with boiler service and maintenance.
- Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting related to HVAC systems.
- Capability to work independently in the field and manage multiple service calls.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience servicing a variety of commercial HVAC systems and equipment types.
- Comfort working with power tools and standard HVAC service tools provided by the employer.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure systems meet energy efficiency, safety, and environmental standards.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with customers and internal team members.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a field-based role.
- Commitment to ongoing training, certifications, and skill development in HVAC technologies.
- Reliability and accountability in handling on-call responsibilities and emergency service requests.
