This position involves responsibility for onsite inspection of dwelling units to determine compliance with all laws, ordinances and codes as applicable to existing property. The work is performed according to established procedures. Employees have frequent contact with the public during inspections and in the explanation of codes and laws. Work is performed under the general supervision of a senior level staff member, with assignment and scheduling of inspections made on a daily basis.
Employees work outdoors in all types of weather. Supervision is not a responsibility of this position. Related work is performed as required.

CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.
- Conducts visual inspections of properties and grounds to assess compliance with relevant codes and ordinances;
- Completes inspection forms;
- Conducts follow‑up inspections to determine if violations have been corrected;
- Explains code violations and purpose of Property Conservation Code to owners or residents;
- Conducts field surveys of a specific area to identify and cite exterior code violations;
- Conducts Lead Dust Wipe Tests;
- Conducts Quality Housing Inspections as part of Monroe County proactive Property Management Program.
High School Diploma or GED, PLUS A or B:
- Performing trades work tasks in carpentry, heating, plumbing, electrical, drywall, roofing, or Masonry;
- Estimating, drafting, or inspecting building construction;
- Public contact work which involved providing complex information to the public, in areas such as, but not limited to, inspecting for code compliance in housing, construction, customer service, teaching, interviewing, inspection for code compliance in housing, construction, or refuse collection.
Training will be arranged by the City of Rochester after the time of appointment.
