Facilities Maintenance Technician - RIT
Rochester, NY | $20.00/hour | Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM | Temp-to-Hire Opportunity
Datrose is seeking an experienced Facilities Maintenance Technician to support Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, NY.
This is a W-2 temporary position with the opportunity to convert to a full-time RIT employee based on performance, attendance, business needs, and position availability.
If you have strong hands-on building maintenance experience and enjoy troubleshooting, repairing, and keeping facilities running safely and efficiently, this could be an excellent opportunity to get your foot in the door at RIT.
Schedule & Pay- Monday-Friday
- 7:00 AM-4:00 PM
- $20.00 per hour
- Additional $0.75/hour shift differential for eligible hours worked between 4:00 PM and 8:30 AM
- Opportunity for conversion to a full-time RIT position
This is a hands-on facilities maintenance role supporting repairs, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and small projects throughout the campus.
Responsibilities may include:
- Diagnose and complete general building repairs
- Perform plumbing and pipe fitting repairs
- Repair doors, windows, locks, and hardware
- Complete painting, drywall, flooring, carpentry, masonry, and related repairs
- Troubleshoot low-voltage electrical systems of 50 volts or less
- Lead small repair and maintenance projects from planning through completion
- Use hand and power tools associated with multiple building trades
- Document work using computerized work-order systems
- Follow RIT safety procedures and applicable OSHA, DEC, and EPA requirements
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- 5 years of building maintenance experience in a commercial, industrial, institutional, or college campus environment
- Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following skilled trades:
- Plumbing
- Millwright, doors, and hardware
- Painting and drywall
- Flooring
- Roofing
- Masonry
- Carpentry
- Intermediate to advanced mechanical aptitude
- Working knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting, painting and drywall, door and window repair, and low-voltage electrical systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to independently lead repairs and small projects
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Basic math skills
- Ability to safely operate common hand and power tools
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, computerized work-order systems, and related facilities software
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work from ladders up to 30 feet, scaffolding and man-lifts up to 40 feet
- Commitment to safe work practices and applicable OSHA, DEC, and EPA requirements
- Trade or vocational training
- OSHA 10‑Hour Safety certification
