Position: Bus Attendant for the 2026-27 school year
Location: City of Rochester

Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the Director of Transportation, to assist drivers with students on the bus.

Compensation & Pay

$16.93/hr.

Schedule
  • Full-time or Part-time
  • 10-month (student calendar) or 12-month
  • Paid hours per day: minimum 5; varies based on assigned route
Essential Job Functions
  • Assist special education students on route
  • Maintain order and ensure safety of children on the bus, including escorting to and from bus
  • Remain concerned about safe behavior while bus is in route
Additional Duties
  • Board and get off at each stop
  • Supervise boarding and unloading at stops
  • Assist driver when backing up bus
  • Assist and may lift students to and from bus
  • May operate 2‑way radio
  • Assist students with special needs
  • Attend scheduled job training, workshops, and meetings with parents/schools/drivers
  • Ensure students seated before bus motion
  • Maintain order on the bus
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned
Equipment

2‑way radio as needed.

Travel Requirements

Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.

  • Carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Work with a diverse group of individuals
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, employees, and others
  • Establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work
  • Report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Work in standard office and school building environments
  • Lift students as needed
  • Work outdoors
Qualifications Profile

Any combination of education and experience that provides the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • No education or experience qualifications for this position
  • Prior experience working with special needs children desirable
