Job Title
This position is responsible for conducting classroom and field training for employees who operate various types of motorized equipment and vehicles in the Department on Environmental Services. An incumbent in this title trains new operators and retrains existing operators in the proper and safe operation of heavy, light, and small equipment and vehicles. An employee in this class also assists the Equipment Training Coordinator in the development and coordination of these training programs.
Direct supervision is received from the Equipment Training Coordinator. Related work is performed as required.
CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.
Typical Work ActivitiesConducts training programs for new and existing operators and their supervisors on the proper operation and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment;
Assists in the planning, development, scheduling, and implementation of equipment and vehicle training programs;
Evaluates performance of and certifies equipment and vehicle operator trainees;
Monitors proper and safe demonstration of equipment operation in the field;
Maintains training records and schedules through the use of a computerized scheduling and tracking system;
Assists in the evaluation of new equipment specifications and changes to existing equipment to determine the need for new training programs or changes to existing programs;
Evaluates equipment and vehicle training programs to ensure effectiveness and suggests appropriate modifications.
High school diploma or GED AND Four (4) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment such as backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, graders, sweepers, and milling machines, two (2) years of which must have been in a lead capacity involving the training of other employees on the proper and safe use of heavy equipment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT :
Possession of a New York State Class B license at time of appointment.
