There are no training and experience qualifications.

This position is designed to train individuals to become School Bus Attendants. School Bus Attendants are responsible for maintaining order and ensuring the safety of students riding their assigned route, including escorting them across the street at bus stops. The attendant must be concerned about safe behavior while the bus is on route, assist physically or mentally handicapped students if assigned, wear safety belts, and possibly wear uniforms.

Work is performed under supervision of the School Bus Operator. Related work is performed as required.

• Accompany bus driver and students on scheduled route
• Board and get off the bus at each stop to escort students across the street
• Supervise boarding and unloading of students at each stop, transfer points, and school sites
• Assist and lift intellectually and developmentally disabled students to and from the bus
• Maintain order on buses
• Enforce district policy governing student behavior while bus is in operation
• Assist driver when backing up the bus
• Report orally and in writing instances of continuing disruptive student behavior
• Request driver to summon emergency aid by two-way radio or operate the two-way radio
• Report trouble at bus stops to driver, terminal, bus garage, or transportation office
• Assist students with special needs
• Attend scheduled job training classes, workshops, and parent/school/driver meetings
• Ensure students are seated before bus is in motion
