The Opportunity:
Warehouse material handlers are responsible for accurate receiving, storing, picking, and shipping of products to meet Avantor standards of productivity, quality, safety, and customer service. This position is based in an industrial warehouse setting and is flexible to a wide array of duties within warehousing.
What we’re looking for
- Education: High School education or GED preferred
- OSHA Forklift and HAZMAT certification a plus
- Experience: 0-1 year experience – open to those eager to start their career in the warehouse industry
- Must be able to use proper techniques to lift up to 75 pounds. The ability to follow directions with emphasis on safety is extremely important.
- Must handle stress caused in meeting deadlines with tight scheduling requirements.
- Must be able to shift priorities easily.
- Must be able to use hands and feet simultaneously for repetitive movements.
- Must have responsible work habits.
- Must be familiar with warehouse systems.
Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret SOPs, coverage documents, and regulations; write reports and business correspondence; establish rapport, present information, and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public; skill and ability to meet people and listen.
Skills:
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with tens and hundreds. Perform these operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance. Understanding of metric system measurements is beneficial.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Skill and ability to type, operate a computer, organize and prioritize work, meet deadlines, operate office equipment, and use Microsoft Office tools and company software.
Warehouse material handlers’ essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Inbound:
Unload trucks, trailers, containers of freight; count products; compare to manifest; check shipments for damage, infestation, or production code dates; report shortages, damages, and mis-shipments; sign for inbound shipments when necessary; move shipments safely to storage locations. - Order Picking:
Ensure correct product number, quantity, and type (lot, batch, serial number) are picked; transport orders to shipping locations with material handling equipment; label, stencil, tag, mark orders, band, bundle, wrap, over-pack, and palletize as required. - Outbound:
Verify quantity, labeling, and address with order to ensure shipments are complete and correct; assign signature for outbound when necessary; efficiently load product, cartons, and pallets into trailers, rail cars, or containers. - Equipment:
Maintain equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion; operate equipment safely and efficiently; comply with company standards and OSHA requirements. - Inventory:
Keep accurate records and reports; assist in physical inventories and cycle counts; ensure proper stock rotation; key inventory adjustments in computer as needed. - Other Duties:
Repack or re-box cases per customer instructions; repair and consolidate damaged goods; operate shrink-wrap machine; charge forklift battery as needed; stack or separate good from bad pallets; clean railcars, trailers, and truck docks as requested. - Perform other duties as assigned.
- The work environment is an industrial warehouse; exposed to moving mechanical machinery, loud noise, heights, changing temperatures, driving equipment, dust, fumes, or gases.
- Requires standing and walking for the majority of the day; tasks include talking, hearing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching above shoulder height, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and pushing/pulling.
- Must lift/carry/push or pull up to 75 pounds with or without assistance; use both hands for repetitive actions and both feet for repetitive movements; specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting…
