Job Description
The Department of English at Winthrop University is seeking applications for part-time adjunct instructor position with the expertise needed to serve as an Adjunct Instructor of English. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated and experienced individual who can teach introductory courses in Composition and Rhetoric, specifically Writing 101, Introduction to Academic Discourse.
The Winthrop Department of English boasts a vibrant team of faculty known for their engaging teaching in classes that serve students from diverse backgrounds and learning communities. The department also collaborates with other departments on campus to deliver its major curriculum for double/dual majors, as well as secondary education degrees.
Position Responsibilities
- Teaching one or more sections of Writing 101, Introduction to Academic Discourse.
- Possibly training for and teaching the second and/or third courses in Winthrop’s General Education core, The Human Experience ( HMXP 102) and Critical Reading, Thinking, and Writing ( CRTW 201) during the spring semester. WRIT 101 sections are not guaranteed in the spring semester.
- Fostering students’ interest in academic writing and critical thinking.
- Coordinating the department’s delivery of the Gen Ed core (reviewing/choosing materials, establishing common syllabi, etc.).
- Engaging in departmental support and academic responsibility, including holding two office hours per week per section taught.

Required Qualifications
Master’s in English or Creative Writing, with at least 18 hrs. of coursework in English and Writing courses completed at the graduate level.
