Job Purpose
- Have a passion for reading? Earn $11.00 per hour reading with children and making a difference! As a Literacy Intervention Team (LIT) tutor you will be matched to read with elementary age children at local schools who need help improving their basic reading skills.

The LIT team, organized by Winthrop University's career center, is a group of Winthrop University students who are mobilized and trained to help children "learn to read", before they have to "read to learn". This team is making a big difference in schools such as Ebenezer Avenue Elementary, Oakdale Elementary and India Hook Elementary. All majors accepted (education majors preferred).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide reading help to children, kindergarten through 5th grade, through fun and interactive activities: one-on-one reading, group reading and guided reading. Follow directions and guidance from public school staff and teachers. Attend reading tutor training and monthly meet-ups with supervisor and fellow tutors. Maintain accurate timesheet.
Qualifications - A love for working with children. A passion for reading. Mandatory attendance at monthly meet-ups and active participation in all trainings. A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills. Clean background check. Availability Monday through Friday, based on class schedule and availability.
