Position Information

Part‑time Adjunct Instructor of History at Winthrop University.

Job Description

The Department of History seeks a dedicated instructor to teach introductory courses in World Civilizations: HIST 111 (World Civilizations from Antiquity to 950 CE), HIST 112 (950 – 1750 CE), or HIST 113 (1750 – present). The instructor may also be considered for training and teaching an upper‑level course in their area of expertise.

Position Responsibilities
  • Teach one or more sections of HIST 111, HIST 112, or HIST 113.
  • Possibly train for and teach an upper‑level history course.
  • Foster students’ interest in academic writing and critical thinking.
  • Coordinate the department’s delivery of the Gen Ed core (reviewing/choosing materials and establishing common syllabi).
  • Provide two office hours per week per section taught.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in History, with at least 18 hrs. of graduate-level History coursework.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in European History and ability to teach courses on that topic.
Employment Conditions

Part‑time, nine‑month appointment without expectation of summer employment. Salary commensurate with qualifications.
