General Definition of Work
The Secondary French Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality French language instruction to students in middle school grades 6-8, fostering linguistic proficiency, cultural awareness, and a positive attitude toward language learning.

Essential Functions
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging French lessons aligned with state curriculum standards which are reflective of ACTFL national standards.
- Develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in French.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Integrate authentic resources, technology, and cultural content into lessons.
- Design and administer assessments for growth.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and assessments.
- Prepare reports and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
- Establish a positive, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment.
- Promote student engagement, motivation, and respectful behavior.
- Apply school policies and procedures consistently.
- Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planning.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning and wellbeing.
- Stay current with best practices in language teaching and pedagogy as described by ACFTL and the South Carolina State Department of Education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students.
- Knowledge needed to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with elementary-aged students and/or employees in a school environment.
- Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques.
- Strong skills in classroom management, collaboration, and differentiated instruction.
- Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public.
- Understanding a child’s behavior and dynamics.
- Skilled in problem solving and patience.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.
- Ability to demonstrate adequate world language proficiency through the STAMP language assessment.
