YorkTechLIFE is York Technical College’s inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program is designed to provide an individualized college experience focused on academic engagement, career preparation, self-determination, and meaningful participation in campus and community life. Through partnerships with employers, state agencies, community organizations, and College departments, YorkTechLIFE prepares students for competitive integrated employment and greater independence after college.
ProgramLeadership and Administration
Directs the day-to-day and long-term operations of YorkTechLIFE. Develops program priorities, operating procedures, annual goals, and measures of effectiveness aligned with College objectives. Supervises assigned employees and provides direction, coaching, performance management, and professional development. Develops and manages the program budget, including applicable College funds, grants, tuition revenue, and other program resources. Monitors enrollment, retention, completion, employment, and other program outcomes and uses results to guide program improvement.
StudentSuccess and Workforce Transition
Provides leadership for educational, employment, and transition programming for YorkTechLIFE students. Ensures student experiences support individual goals related to education, employment, independent living, and community participation. Develops and maintains relationships with employers to expand work-based learning, internship, and competitive integrated employment opportunities. Coordinates with program staff and College partners to support effective student transition planning and successful post-program outcomes.
Partnerships and Campus IntegrationDevelops and maintains partnerships with state and local agencies, employers, community organizations, families, and other stakeholders supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Serves as a primary program liaison with agencies such as Vocational Rehabilitation and the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. Coordinates with College departments, including Financial Aid, the Registrar, Student Life, faculty, and other academic and administrative units, to promote appropriate access, participation, and integration of YorkTechLIFE students throughout the College.
Represents the program through outreach, presentations, meetings, and community engagement activities.
Ensures YorkTechLIFE operates in accordance with applicable federal, state, institutional, and program requirements. Oversees requirements associated with the program’s Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary Program designation, including reporting and documentation required by the U.S. Department of Education. Coordinates activities associated with applicable program accreditation or recognition processes, including work with Think College and other external organizations. Partners with appropriate College offices to support compliance with applicable Title IV requirements.
Monitors changes in regulation, policy, and emerging practices related to inclusive postsecondary education and recommends program changes as appropriate.
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field
- At least two years of professional experience in serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Master's degree in Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field.
- Proven track record in workforce development or vocational advocacy.
- Direct experience coordinating with partner agencies and navigating complex service delivery systems.
