The Talent Mine is recruiting for an Engineering Manager (Utility Structures) role, for an immediate FTE in‑office position just south of the Charlotte metro area. This client is North America's largest recycler and leads the steel industry in minimizing environmental impacts. This company has an unmatched track record of employee investment and stability.

OverviewThe engineering team creates utility structures (primarily tubular steel poles, arms, and accessories) for the power distribution market, including distribution, transmission, substations, and more. This division has a national footprint with multiple production facilities across the country.
Job Functions include- Head up a team of estimators, engineers, and/or detailers offering quotes, making designs, and creating drawings.
- Ensure consistent application of current design policies, procedures, and practices.
- Make decisions with other engineering department leaders to provide safe and competitive product designs.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and accountability to teammates.
- Manage the team’s priorities and set expectations.
- Guide teammates to deliver quality work, on time, with consistent results.
- Interview and hire new teammates to build the team.
- Actively work within the Division leadership team to drive continuous improvement and overall business success.
- Demonstrate an ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
- Support the sales team through customer interactions, cultivating deeper partnerships and promoting the client’s value proposition.
- Complete required travel to visit customers, support plants, exhibit at trade shows, etc. (~25-50% of the time).
- Report directly to the Director of the Engineering Department.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification (or ability to obtain within six months of start date)
- Prior leadership experience
- 2+ years experience in the utility pole/tower structures industry
- 2+ years experience in design of steel products or structural steel connection
- Degree with specific Structural emphasis
- MBA or Engineering Master’s degree
- Willingness to relocate for future advancement opportunities within the company
Total compensation = $160,000-$232,000, broken down as follows:
Base salary range – $125,000 - $176,000
Annual bonus of 28-32% over the past 5 years
401K and Roth accounts, plus pay-for-performance bonuses
