What Will You Do?The Applications Engineer supports trials and programming improvements through software and application modifications needed for particular parts/processes. The role also manages off‑site software activity, following a standard project‑management method—including scope, engineering‑hour estimation, reviews, regular project updates, testing at our Rock Hill, SC facility (when possible), and delivery/training.
- New Product Introduction (NPI) – Lead and support NPI activities, transitioning customer products from concept and feasibility through validated, production‑ready processes.
- Process & Machine Development – Develop and optimize machine tools and processes using Laser Ablation, Laser Drilling, and Electro‑Discharge Machining (EDM); support future product and process development.
- Continuous Improvement (CI) – Drive machine and process improvements by implementing innovative solutions, standardizing best practices, and enhancing productivity.
- Customer & Commercial Support – Demonstrate machine tools and machining processes to customers and provide technical training; deliver application support for machine‑tool contracts and subcontract production programs.
- Manufacturing & Technical Support – Provide hands‑on manufacturing engineering support to production teams, assist with metallurgical sample analysis, and develop technical documentation, reports, and work instructions.
- General Responsibilities – Maintain compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3 years of experience with 5‑axis machine‑tool controls, including at least one of Laser Drilling, Cutting or Welding;
Laser Ablation (micro‑machining); or EDM Hole Drilling. - Strong understanding of the principles, operation, and kinematics of 5‑axis machine tools.
- Ability to interpret, manipulate, and apply complex 3D geometry.
- Proven experience developing machining applications for complex components, preferably in aerospace or industrial gas turbine environments.
- Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human‑Machine Interface (HMI) software.
- 50‑75% travel to customer locations.
