In this role you will help foster our mission that All People Should Live in Safe, Sustainable and Beautiful Communities. You will work with project engineers and managers to complete a wide variety of engineering assignments, including development of construction plans and specifications, stormwater management design, grading plans, utility plans, erosion control and SWPPP plans, construction details, and project correspondence.
Responsibilities- Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on projects
- Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, research and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies
- Assist with project plans and specifications, preparing cost and quantity take‑off estimates
- Conduct construction observation activities, including staking, documenting activities, providing general oversight, and interacting with contractors, subcontractors, residents and City staff
- Travel periodically to work sites and other project‑related locations
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited post‑secondary institution and successful passage of the Fundamentals of Engineering (Engineer Intern) exam
- Engineer‑In‑Training Certification (or ability to receive in 12 months)
- Capability to work in outdoor conditions and navigate rugged terrain for construction observation duties
- Academic or on‑the‑job experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Basic MS Office skills including Word and Excel
- Valid driver’s license and own transportation (business travel reimbursed)
- Strong listening skills and clear written and spoken English; interaction with City staff, residents, contractors and subcontractors
