Civil Design Engineer - Land Development

In this role you will help foster our mission that All People Should Live in Safe, Sustainable and Beautiful Communities. You will work with project engineers and managers to complete a wide variety of engineering assignments, including development of construction plans and specifications, stormwater management design, grading plans, utility plans, erosion control and SWPPP plans, construction details, and project correspondence.

• Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on projects
• Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, research and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies
• Assist with project plans and specifications, preparing cost and quantity take‑off estimates
• Conduct construction observation activities, including staking, documenting activities, providing general oversight, and interacting with contractors, subcontractors, residents and City staff
• Travel periodically to work sites and other project‑related locations

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited post‑secondary institution and successful passage of the Fundamentals of Engineering (Engineer Intern) exam
• Engineer‑In‑Training Certification (or ability to receive in 12 months)
• Capability to work in outdoor conditions and navigate rugged terrain for construction observation duties
• Academic or on‑the‑job experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Basic MS Office skills including Word and Excel
• Valid driver’s license and own transportation (business travel reimbursed)
• Strong listening skills and clear written and spoken English; interaction with City staff, residents, contractors and subcontractors
