Paint Shop Engineering / Launch Manager What you'll do
- Lead all paint shop launch activities from equipment installation through production readiness.
- Manage and coach paint shop engineering staff, technicians, and contractors.
- Provide Engineering and Process Analysts with necessary infrastructure and empowerment to achieve business goals.
- Priority management based on Real Time Management.
- Plan department activities, implement company initiatives, handle people management and escalated people issues within his/her area.
- Responsible for future model launches, engineering changes, and process improvements.
- Early involvement in projects: new models, introduction of additional shifts, plant expansions, new equipment, new techniques, etc.
- Develop and control cost, quality, delivery, and safety objectives.
- Review man‑hours, cost, performance, and ratio plans with Engineers to reach the set targets.
- Responsible for performance of activities connected to "Year over Year" efficiency improvements.
- Ensure the implementation of and adherence to Volvo Car Manufacturing System within the entire area of responsibility.
- Ensure quality of products according to specifications using Produce and Process Standards and with the authority to implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Work toward an excellent relationship within the area of responsibility and with other Volvo units worldwide.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and problem‑solving.
- Foster standardized work through Quality Process System and daily coaching activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of engineering experience within a manufacturing facility.
- Experience with automotive operations and pace of manufacturing.
- Experience in equipment installation and commissioning.
- Experience launching new manufacturing facilities or production lines.
- Experience in leading/managing salaried Engineers and hourly members to complete required tasks.
Knowledge of:
- Automotive Paint Processes and their effects on Quality.
- Understanding of mechanical principles and related systems.
- Understanding of liquid principles and systems.
- Understanding of Air Flow systems (Ovens / Spray Booths) and their effects on Quality.
- Knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans, APQP, PPAP, and GD&T.
- Standardized Work and Real Time Management principles.
- Problem solving and continuous improvement mindset and methods.
- Manning and flexible manning systems.
- Process observation and confirmation.
