Lieutenant Turbeville Correctional Inst, Turbeville; CLARENDON Level 2

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plan, coordinate, and direct the actions of the security staff and oversee security, custody and control of inmates in assigned areas of a level two correctional facility.
• Assume primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Make routine checks of the areas to ensure subordinate staff are performing duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assist with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and violations; arbitrate disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
• Shift/Schedule is subject to change.
• This position is assigned to the Shock Program.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

• A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
