Position Summary

  • JOB TITLE: Right-of-Way Equipment Operator
  • FLSA STATUS: This position is non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act in relation to wage and hour regulations
  • EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • EXPERIENCE: One year experience with similar job responsibilities required.
  • KNOWLEDGE: Must possess a working knowledge of the basic methods, techniques and tools used in tree maintenance work. Must be able to read, write and do arithmetic. Requires analyzing information, coordinating people and resources. Must have thorough knowledge of first aid and CPR or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
  • ABILITIES AND

    SKILLS:

    Must have the ability to become skilled in the operation of heavy equipment, in tree climbing and in using tree maintenance tools from the ground and from a bucket truck. Must have a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or be able to obtain one within 180 days of employment. Subject to random drug and alcohol testing consistent with DOT regulations.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to work under adverse conditions such as extreme heat or cold, high winds, stormy conditions, and must be available to work during emergency conditions after normal working hours.
  • PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Reaching and lifting overhead is required. Job requires standing, crawling, climbing, bending, pulling and reaching, Heavy lifting involved. Majority of time spent out-of-doors. Exposure to varying temperature conditions. Includes exposure to mechanical or electrical burns, working at heights and operating machinery hazards. Safety equipment required. Must be able to communicate with individuals. Driver’s license required. Must be able to read, write and do arithmetic.

    Requires analyzing information, coordinating people and resources. Must be able to present information to others and work under stress.
Position Information
  • JOB TITLE: Right-of-Way Equipment Operator
  • Department: Maintenance
  • Location: Bamberg, SC
  • Reports To: VP of Operations, Right-of-Way Foreman
  • Position Function: To support the utility’s distribution operations by cutting right-of-way and keeping the area clear of brush and trees.
Essential Functions
  • Performs duties required to ensure adequate right-of-way clearances for distribution lines and equipment as assigned.
  • Maintains utility’s right-of-way areas to ensure adequate clearances for distribution lines and equipment as assigned.
  • Operates a variety of tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Inspects tools and personal protective equipment.
  • Maintains a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Drives and maintains Cooperative-owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Completes required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work place whether on company property or at a job site.
  • Attends and participates in safety meetings and maintains safe work practices.
  • Performs other customer service related duties as assigned.
  • Attends or participates in Annual Meeting of members, as assigned.
  • Loads and secures materials and equipment needed for job and operates vehicular equipment required by work responsibilities.
  • Communicates using equipment provided by the cooperative, in accordance with FCC regulations, company regulations and policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including the replacement of other personnel in their positions for short periods of time as required.
Performance Standards
  • Participates in tailgate conference to plan work assignments for the day.
  • Observes area before cutting for any obstacles such as property markers, telephone pedestals, etc. and tags the findings.
  • Cuts and trims trees to keep primary, secondary and service lines clear.
  • Inspects completed work for conformity to system standards.
  • Cleans up and removes branches and brush.
  • Sets and removes barricades, flags, signs and flares; directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
  • Assists with the measuring and staking of right-of-way.

    Informs the Manager of Maintenance & Metering or Right-of-Way Foreman of conditions which are unsafe.
