OverviewThe Admissions Counselor supports Augustana College and the Admissions Office in the recruitment, admissions, and retention goals of the institution. As a member of the admissions team, the counselor works collaboratively with college faculty, administrators, and staff to effectively communicate the value of an Augustana education to prospective students and their families throughout the college search and selection process. Participation includes a wide variety of recruitment activities both on and off campus.
Job Duties- Represents Augustana both on and off campus to prospective students, parents, school counselors and other organizations involved in the college search and selection process.
- Coordinates personalized contacts, phone, and email outreach to assigned students and their families. Represents Augustana at selected college day/night programs and high school visits, and other off campus events.
- Conducts student interviews and information sessions, on and off campus, to communicate distinctions of the college and assess interest and academic potential.
- Reviews student applications and essays, makes admissions decisions, and communicates with students and parents about their admission status and scholarships.
- Supports the Financial Assistance Office by providing accurate information about the options and resources for funding an education at the college.
- Represents Augustana for speeches, speaking engagements, conferences and meetings as assigned and participates in informal recruitment activities such as sporting events, musical performances, plays and other activities.
- Partners with coaches, faculty, fine arts departments, and other on-campus constituencies to align recruitment efforts.
- Collaborates with the admissions staff on a variety of departmental projects (event planning, targeted outreach efforts, etc.) and actively participates in group meetings.
- Uses Slate to create reports of recruitment activities and to track progress toward goals, as well as for strategic outreach planning.
- Supervises a small group of student employees and provides work direction to support recruitment efforts.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Excellent communication skills including written communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to develop rapport with a wide variety of student and family personalities. Strong cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills are necessary.

- Knowledge of using Google Workspace applications required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to represent the Augustana admissions team positively through a strong, student centered focus.
- Spanish fluency is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree required. 1-3 years’ experience in private higher education or college counseling highly preferred. A demonstrated interest and/or experience in event planning and promotion is preferred.
Pay and BenefitsThis position is budgeted for $40,000 - $42,000 and offers a competitive benefits package designed to support the needs of employees.
