Senior Engineer
Rock Island, IL 100% Employee-Owned | Big-firm resources, local-team relationships, ONE IMEG culture IMEG is hiring a Senior Engineer in Rock Island, Illinois to support infrastructure services including transportation, water/wastewater, and construction engineering, with a focus on structural design and detailing for bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and similar structures. In this role, you will lead design efforts on moderate to complex projects and independently contribute to high-complexity assignments with minimal oversight.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver effective engineering solutions, while helping manage project budgets, mentoring junior staff, and supporting training initiatives. Working across site development, transportation, and municipal markets, this role helps deliver resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

- Apply civil and structural engineering principles to the design and analysis of large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Support structural design for bridges and other infrastructure, including calculations, detailing, and documentation.
- Develop design criteria, technical reports, construction plans, and specifications, and perform quality assurance reviews.
- Perform in-process design reviews to ensure adherence to quality standards, industry codes, and client expectations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in both office and virtual environments to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Conduct field inspections to verify construction compliance with design documents and project specification.
- Monitor project progress, review schedules, and ensure timely delivery of engineering milestones.
- Engage with clients to gather project requirements, present technical information, and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to junior staff, and assist in resolving field-related engineering issues.
- Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and contribute to internal R&D initiatives.
- Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable safety regulations, codes, and local/state design criteria.
- Participate in project interviews and presentations to support business development and client engagement efforts.
- Education/
Experience:
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or equivalent, required - Professional Engineer (PE) License required
- Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
- 14 years of experience minimum required, 16 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
- Experience with hydraulic design for bridges and roadway design preferred
- Micro Station and/or AutoCAD Required
- Advance knowledge of AASHTO LRFD bridge design code and NBIS Bridge Inspection Experience
- Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
- Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills for civil infrastructure
- Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
- Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups - Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight stays
- Full-service site civil team across the Quad Cities and St. Louis corridor
- Depth in drainage, grading, land surveying, and construction staking for public-works and federal clients
- Experience across healthcare, education, industrial, and non-profit markets
