Position: Public Safety Telecommunicator (Office Automation) with Security Clearance
Duties
* Responsible for the operation of system interface computer equipment.
* Acknowledge or defer alarms, determine the priority level of each alarm generated, determine the operational procedures for the alarm and act in accordance with procedures for the Fire Detection and Intrusion Detection System.
* Transfer caller to proper personnel as determined or dispatches a variety of emergency equipment to include police, fire, ambulance, rescue or hazardous materials units.
* Maintain continuous telephone contact with caller, when appropriate, during emergency situations.
* Responsible for caller interrogation to determine the problem and the nature of the call.
* Identify the nature of emergency, level of response required based on local protocols, and provide any additional information to the responding units.
* Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* Within 16 weeks from the date of employment, you will be required to demonstrate reasonable proficiency at locally established training guidelines on the use of E911, CAD, Land Mobile Radio (LMR), and station alerting software and equipment.
* Position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate, rotating work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
* Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
* Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.
* Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems.
* The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
* The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Emergency Medical Dispatch based on the program standards at the location assigned.
* Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned.
* Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location.
* Incumbent must complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS 100,300, 700, 800, and 907 courses.
* The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.
* Pre-employment vision and hearing screenings are required.
* Travel Duty may be required up to 5% of the time.
* In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively. Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes:
1) Answering emergency and/or non-emergency calls for police, fire, or ambulance assistance;
2) Dispatching emergency personnel as needed in accordance with priority level procedures; AND
3) Operating communications software to perform dispatching duties such as: log calls, prepare reports of activities, and assist with medical dispatching until appropriate emergency units arrive. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
