After-School Program Van Driver

The job of the After-School Program Van Driver is done for the purpose of transporting students over scheduled routes and to/from special excursions while ensuring safety of students during transport, loading, and unloading from buses.

Examples of Duties
  • Transporting students from school to the King Center After school program.
  • Providing pick-up in designated areas.
  • Transporting students on field trips coordinated by the After school Program Manager.
  • Adheres to established routes, designated stops and assigned time schedule.
  • Obeys all traffic laws and observes safety regulations.
  • Be prepared to work as part of a team, and be willing to communicate problems to the after school program manager.
  • Escorts children for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
  • Conducts a safety inspection of the vehicle prior to every trip.
  • Arrives to work as scheduled prepared to safely perform duties.
  • Act as a role-model to the students attending our program and therefore must follow all student rules.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications

Holds and maintains a current and valid Class D driver's license. Has demonstrated a minimum of three years of driving experience and possesses excellent driving record.

Specific vision abilities required by the position include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to read various sizes of print. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.

The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. Additional information:
The typical hours are:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm;
Wednesday: 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm. The program runs on the same schedule of the Rock Island/Milan School District #41 although additional hours may be available. The program provides this service to two schools but may expand to three. Applicants must agree to a verification of your driving records, if you are being considered for the position.
