Job Description Summary
The primary responsibility of this individual is to provide high-quality instruction to WWCC Workforce students. This individual must be able to relate to a wide variety of students in the community college environment. This individual's responsibilities will primarily involve teaching courses and advancing skill levels of employees involved in industry fields.
It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner, and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual must follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE
1. Provides high-quality instruction to students in assigned courses, particularly those including personal and industrial safety, Hazard Communications (HAZCOM), NSC First Aid/CPR, safe operations of large vehicles including cranes and fork lifts, defensive driving, H2
Sand other industry-related content as may be requested.
2. Provides quality learning experiences for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining the basic integrity of course standards and objectives.
3. States clear objectives and criteria in each course syllabus; follows the Curriculum Committee's guidelines regarding course syllabi; integrates the appropriate College learning goals into each course; and evaluates student performance in light of these objectives and criteria.
4. Teaches courses in a variety of physical and classroom environments as required. Courses are typically run on a year-round basis so as to best serve the needs of industry partners. Material is to be presented both in the classroom as well as outdoor environments, in order to effectively simulate actual working conditions for students.
5. Designs and implements effective learning processes for students; provides feedback on student improvement in attaining the College's Goals for Student Success and student outcomes.
6. Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including regular use of e-mail and calendar system, MyWestern, and Canvas (learning management system); integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.
7. Submits syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner.
8. Recommends opportunities for content enhancements and curricular modifications to Director to facilitate improvements in student learning and better grasp and retention of material.
9. Candidate may work up to 1,272 hours per year, and is expected to work a minimum of 1,040 hours per year (approximately 80 hours per month).
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities)
1. Extensive (≥ 10 years) hands on employment experience within the MSHA Mining industry, or related relevant work experience.
2. Knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles and practices of current industry operations.
3. Must hold current MSHA Blue Cards to instruct.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and administrators.
4. Ability to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the student-teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of community college students.
5. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
Equivalency Statement
For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities may be acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities,
Education and Experience )
1. Prior teaching or training experience is highly desirable.
2. A college degree or certificate in a relevant field is desirable.
3. Possession of current industry-accepted certifications (MSHA, CPR/First Aid, etc.) is a plus.
