Job Description Summary

SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of this individual is to provide quality instruction to Western students enrolled in classes taught at the main campus in Rock Springs. This individual must be able to relate to a wide variety of students in the community college environment. This individual's responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate physics courses in an online format. The teaching responsibilities include Concepts of Physics, General Physics I, and General Physics II.

Courses include both lecture and laboratory components, with laboratories completed by students using approved, commercially available lab kits.

It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective, competent manner and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE

Primary Duties:

* Teach assigned physics courses including Concepts of Physics, General Physics I, and General Physics II.

* Deliver course content through the institution's learning management system using asynchronous and/or synchronous methods.

* Facilitate laboratory experiences using approved commercial lab kits.

* Develop and administer assessments, including common assessments, and submit grades on time.

* Maintain regular interaction with students. Communicate with the Department Chair regarding course delivery and student needs.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities)

1. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in one of several related degrees listed below or a Master's degree in any field, plus 18 graduate credits acquired from any of the related degrees listed below.

2. Comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles and practices of Physics.

3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and administrators.

4. Ability to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the student-teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of community college students.

5. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.

Related Degrees

Physics, Physical Science with a Physics emphasis, Astrophysics, Biophysics, Chemical Physics, Geophysics, Applied Physics, or Engineering Physics, Astronomy, Atmospheric Science, Applied Mathematics with a Physics or Engineering emphasis, Materials Science, or Engineering with sufficient Physics emphasis.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities,

Education and Experience )

1. Experience using active approaches to learning; experience using alternative methods of learning, such as interactive software, Internet, or individualized modular programs.

2. Active participation in relevant professional organizations.

3. Demonstrated teaching excellence at a community college.
