Adjunct Faculty - Information Systems

An adjunct in Information Systems will provide quality instruction to Western students enrolled in a variety of classes in software applications, computer information systems, information management, and related topics. This position may have the option of teaching distance (online) classes, live classes, or a combination of instructional methods. The position will consist of teaching no more than 12 credits per fall/spring semester and no more than 6 credits per summer semester.

Responsibilities

Provides quality instruction to students in assigned courses such as Computer Information Systems, Information Management, software applications, or enterprise resource planning.

Provides quality learning experiences for all students enrolled, maintaining the integrity of the course’s standards and objectives.

Develops course syllabi with clear objectives and evaluation criteria; follows the Curriculum Committee’s guidelines and integrates College learning outcomes.

Teaches courses in a variety of environments and modes as required, including fall, spring, or summer semesters and varying schedules (5, 7, 8, 12, 15 or 16 weeks). Instructors new to online teaching may be required to complete a professional development course.

Designs and implements effective learning processes; provides feedback on student improvement in attaining the College’s Learning Goals.

Communicates clearly and effectively using the college network system, e‑mail, calendar system, MyWestern, and other software applications; integrates technology into the classroom as appropriate.

Refers students to resources such as the Information Systems Computer Lab, MyWestern, Canvas, Mustang Central, Peer Tutor Center, Net Tutor, and the Library.

Builds professional relationships with industry professionals to support curricular planning and other functions.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited college with an AAS or AS in Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience/credentials.
Knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles, and practices of teaching software applications, computer information systems, information management, and related subjects at the post‑secondary level.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and administrators.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in the student‑teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of community college students.
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
Private‑sector business experience providing insights that can be imparted to students.
Active participation in relevant professional organizations.
College‑level teaching experience substantiated by excellent student evaluations and/or letters of recommendation.

Estimated Salary: $940 per credit
