Western Wyoming College (Western) is a two-year college located in Rock Springs, Wyoming, serving a diverse student population from the local community and beyond. The college offers a range of one-year certificates and two-year associate degrees designed to prepare learners for transfer or immediate entry into the workforce. Western also provides selected four-year degrees, including a new Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Management, expanding opportunities for advanced study.

Role Description

The Admissions Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based in Rock Springs, WY, responsible for guiding prospective students and their supporters through the admissions process. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with prospective students, responding to inquiries via phone, email, and in-person visits, and providing information about academic programs, campus life, and financial aid resources. The role involves conducting campus tours, participating in recruitment events and college fairs, and building relationships with high schools, community organizations, and other partners.

The Admissions Counselor evaluates applications, assists with enrollment steps, and collaborates closely with faculty and staff to support a smooth transition from prospect to enrolled student. This position requires consistent on-campus presence and occasional evening or weekend activities for outreach and events.

Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal communication and general communication skills to interact effectively with prospective students, families, and campus colleagues.
  • Customer service and sales skills to engage prospective students, address questions, and support recruitment and conversion goals.
  • Understanding of education environments and student development to effectively explain academic pathways and college resources.
  • Ability to present information clearly in group settings, conduct campus tours, and represent the college at outreach events.
  • Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities, follow up with prospects, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with standard office software, databases, and online communication tools; experience with CRM or admissions systems is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and serving students from varied backgrounds.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Education, Counseling, Communications, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Prior experience in admissions, student services, recruitment, or customer-focused roles is an asset.
