Controller, Accounting, Financial Reporting

Steven Douglas has been retained to identify a Controller for our global professional association based in Chicago. This is a Head of Accounting & Finance role and reports directly to the CEO. Leading a team, the Controller is responsible for all accounting functions—including month-end close, cash management, compliance, tax, and financial systems. The Controller also performs financial planning & analysis, financial reporting, and governance.

This is a hybrid role working 1-2 days a week in the office.

• Oversee month-end close, general ledger reconciliations, and all transactional accounting (payables, receivables, revenue, expenses, fixed assets, investments, and restricted funds)
• Oversee all transactional accounting including payables, receivables, revenue, expenses, fixed assets, investments, and restricted funds
• Lead the annual budgeting, reforecasting, and monthly financial package preparation
• Manage Form (b) audit; complete schedules for Form 990, Form 990-T, and all related state filings, working with external partners

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA required
• Demonstrated experience managing an accounting team with multiple direct reports
• Nonprofit accounting experience, including GAAP compliance, audit management, and 990 filings
• Track record of implementing process improvements and reducing month-end close timelines
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to senior leadership, boards, and audit and finance committee
