ASSISTANT RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT
Gallagher and Henry is a family owned residential builder and general contractor, who has been building in the Chicagoland area since 1954. Our established construction company has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Superintendent to join our team of professionals. The Assistant Superintendent (Assistant Construction Manager) manages all functions of the construction job site as it relates to building quality residential homes.
Supervise construction from mechanical through warranty while maximizing profits and maintaining excellence through the process. Ensures quality assurance and customer satisfaction are maintained throughout the construction process of the new homes. The right candidate will have a good work ethic and strong multi-tasking and interpersonal skills. We are a cohesive and hard-working team with excellent core values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Construction/Cycle Time/Home Readiness:
- Support project manager/superintendent in all areas of responsibility
- Plan and direct staff and trade partners in the construction and completion from mechanical through warranty, of quality residential homes with strong commitment to client satisfaction.
- Excellent customer service and communications
- Responsible for project reporting – Permit through completion including warranty
- Interface with co-workers, architects, engineers, municipalities and trade partners
- Schedule and monitor trade partners during the entire construction process from mechanicals through closing and warranty, maintaining code compliance and meeting quality expectations.
- Work with purchasing department to approve trade partner's purchase orders and invoices for assigned homes, while ensuring completion of work in a quality and timely manner.
- Schedule all city/village inspections, obtain permits and Certificates of Occupancy.
- Manage construction process for accuracy, achievement of timeline goals, and quality control.
- Co‑ordinate work schedules among various subcontractors
- Monitor subdivision cleanliness and hold trade partners responsible for daily clean‑up of homes and jobsite.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- High school degree or equivalent required
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Construction Worker vocational degree or certificate preferred
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years as an Assistant Construction Manager for the homebuilding industry
- 3 years of construction experience with a production home builder preferred
- Strong carpentry background preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrates leadership capabilities including motivating teams, employee development, and being results oriented
- Strong people skills, including the capability to handle various personalities and develop professional relationships
- Action oriented, with the drive to push projects and tasks to successful closure
- Strong verbal & written communication, with the ability to take complex concepts and communicate accurately and persuasively
- Strong ability to work within a team‑setting, inclusive of other's ideas, and a willingness to cooperate
- Makes quick and accurate decisions based heavily on facts, data and/or metrics
- Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Softplan, Auto Cad, or other software drawing experience is a plus
