Summary of ObjectiveReporting to Package Design Supervisor, the successful Package Designer II will support the development and launch of new package designs and existing packaging enhancements. The role involves engaging with customers, coordinating with vendors and suppliers, managing R&D and prototyping activities in the Design Lab, and using design software and practical packaging development knowledge to create solutions for PCI clients to aid commercial sales efforts and billable Design Services.
Responsibilities- Design and assemble a wide variety of complex packaging systems: primary, secondary, and tertiary formats that meet customer requirements and PCI manufacturing capabilities.
- Create sketches, 3D renderings, and visual presentations of packaging concepts.
- Communicate ideas, solutions and improvements to customers and internal teams through digital presentations and meetings.
- Create and modify packaging structural drawings and web layouts using various CAD platforms without supervision.
- Review and edit structural elements to ensure they meet customer requests and PCI operational requirements.
- Participate in technical reviews and support project onboarding plans.
- Perform prototyping duties in the on‑site prototyping laboratory, including management of supplies and equipment maintenance.
- Execute various activities for billable Design Services:
Design Consultation, Conceptualization, Package Development, Sample Preparation, and Package Performance Testing. - Provide direct support to Senior Designers and Project Leads during project planning and execution.
- Maintain and track digital assets related to packaging design.
- Participate in recruiting events for interns/co‑ops and contribute to candidate selection and onboarding.
- Provide training, mentoring, and direction to Junior Designers, in‑house interns and co‑ops.
- Support internal corporate and marketing activities as needed.
- Support ESG initiatives.
- Adhere to all PCI, cGMP, and GCP policies, procedures and rules.
- Attendance to work is an essential function of this position.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 2+ years related industry experience and/or training.
- Completed advanced training for CAD‑based design software (Solid Works & Artios
CAD) and proficiency in graphic design and photo‑editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite. - Experience in development of advanced drug delivery device packaging and special child‑resistant and adult‑friendly packaging, including performance testing and qualifications.
- Experience with thermoforming design/manufacturing technologies and materials.
- Experience with unit‑dose blister design/manufacturing technologies and materials.
- Experience with folding carton and wallet card design/manufacturing/printing technologies and materials.
- Good familiarity with project management tools and practices; ability to plan, track and communicate project status effectively.
- Experience or basic knowledge of flexible packaging and materials.
- Basic computer skills: ability to perform basic computer tasks and operate common programs.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Full professional proficiency in speaking, reading and writing accurately at all professional levels.
- High reasoning ability: solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in limited standardization situations.
- High standard of report writing.
- Ability to effectively present information to various audiences.
- Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction.
- Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
- Ability to display original thinking and creativity.
The hiring rate for this position is $69,920‑$81,000 plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus. The offer amount is determined by factors such as experience, education, credentials, geography, and subject matter expertise.
