Teach courses in the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Medical Assistant Program, delivering instruction that meets program requirements and supports student learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plan course content and assign appropriate coursework.
- Select appropriate texts and teaching materials.
- Meet classes at assigned times.
- Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate.
- See that equipment and/or labs are properly maintained where appropriate.
- Participate in assessment of student learning.
- Maintain student records, evaluate student progress, and assign grades.
- Maintain office hours convenient for students.
- Prepare course/class reports as required.
- Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and any policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College.
- Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in‑service training, etc.).
- Assist in placement of graduates when appropriate.
- Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Current credential in good standing as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a healthcare setting, including at least 160 hours in ambulatory care.
- Demonstrated proficiency in instruction, curriculum delivery, evaluation, and program planning.
- Experience in instruction of educational theory and techniques.
- One year teaching experience in post‑secondary and/or vocational/technical education.
- Commitment to the success of the Medical Assistant program.
- Ability to stand, demonstrate skills, and lecture for extended periods as required by instructional duties.
- A commitment to education and a willingness to teach a range of courses within the Medical Assistant Program.
- Prepare and deliver instruction for 21st‑century learners and assess student learning outcomes as appropriate to ensure academic quality.
- Serve as an engaged learning facilitator who contributes to the College's mission and strategic goals.
- Support student success through instructional excellence and professional collaboration.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a classroom, office, clinic, and lab setting.
