Position OverviewWe are currently seeking a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our dynamic team at E‑Therapy. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, empowering them to access the curriculum and achieve academic success.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct assessments of students' functional vision, visual functioning, and educational needs to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and instructional goals.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in braille literacy, adaptive technology, orientation and mobility, and daily living skills.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to adapt and modify curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with visual impairments.
- Teach students compensatory skills—tactile discrimination, spatial awareness, and auditory processing—to enhance their independence and participation in educational activities.
- Utilize assistive technology and adaptive equipment to facilitate students' access to the curriculum and promote independence in the classroom and school environment.
- Provide consultation and training to school staff, parents, and caregivers on strategies for supporting students with visual impairments in educational and social settings.
- Monitor students' progress, collect data on skill acquisition, and adjust instruction and interventions as needed to promote optimal outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress, assessment results, instructional plans, and communication with families and educational team members.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or Special Education with a focus on visual impairments.
- Current state licensure or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
- Proficiency in braille literacy, including knowledge of braille code, instruction, and assessment.
- Strong understanding of visual impairments—low vision, blindness, and related disabilities—and their impact on learning and development.
- Experience working with students with visual impairments in educational settings, preferably in PreK‑12 schools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, school staff, and related service providers.
- Proficiency in assessment, curriculum adaptation, and instructional strategies for students with visual impairments.
