Surgical Technology Instructor - Adjunct Faculty

Do you have a passion for Surgical Technology and desire to share this with others entering this critical field? Rasmussen University is currently seeking dynamic part-time adjunct instructors to teach within the Surgical Technology program. Our teaching roles allow you the ability to continue working in the field while exploring academia and engaging the next generation of surgical technologists. Our courses provide the knowledge and clinical skills critical for students' success.
No prior teaching experience is required; training will be provided.
Reporting RelationshipsAdjunct faculty will report to an Academic Dean.
Responsibilities- Communicate with students—verbally and in writing—to provide feedback on performance consistently throughout the course.
- Be available to students via phone, email, and in-person appointments to address questions and academic assistance as needed.
- Respond to the Dean or university staff regarding performance, student issues or concerns, and faculty file/accreditation needs in a timely manner.
- Maintain appropriate behavior, language, professional communication, demeanor, and dress at all times.
- Teaching Effectiveness:
Professionalism, Use of Technology, and Content Expertise- Dynamic, active classroom: use effective teaching strategies and multiple techniques; model appropriate learning skills; create an engaging environment.
- High levels of student engagement through activities, community building, and student-centered learning, including the use of live classroom tools for synchronous learning.
- Clarity, relevance, and connection of session objectives to course performance objectives.
- Organized classroom and efficient use of class time.
- Subject Matter Expertise
- Demonstrate mastery of and the ability to articulate knowledge in your area of expertise.
- Play an integral role in the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment within that area.
- Student and University Support and Professionalism
- Create a classroom presence that supports students in collaboration with their dean.
- Provide student support and outreach to help students achieve learning objectives through synchronous or asynchronous communication and meetings.
- Faculty Meetings and Other Responsibilities
- Attend programmatic meetings, events, and committee work as agreed upon or designated by the dean.
- Professional Development
- Complete a minimum of six (6) Rasmussen Educational Units (REUs) annually or two (2) REUs per quarter for each quarter taught.
- Teaching experience preferred (minimum of 3 years in the field of study).
- Clinical preceptor experience preferred.
- Self-motivated, flexible, able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, leadership, and peers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Bachelor's degree in Surgical Technology.
- Active, unrestricted CST or CST/CSFA. If a state license is required, it must be unencumbered.
- At least 2 years of experience in an operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology within the past 5 years.
- Must be able to provide professional licenses or certifications required for specialized schools (e.g., health sciences, nursing) before teaching; license must be active and unencumbered.
- Clinical faculty must adhere to the university’s policy on faculty immunizations and provide proper documentation.
- Must provide official transcripts for each degree earned from an accredited institution before teaching.
