Behavior Intervention Specialist
Provide behavior intervention and work directly with identified students to use diversified strategies and activities to adopt behaviors that substantially decrease maladaptive (physical and verbal) behaviors and, ultimately, increase their academic performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
- Participate in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
- Provide assistance with de-escalating student behavior and reintegrating students back into the classroom.
- Identify and implement appropriate interventions for students in need of additional assistance.
- Develop behavior plans and specific intervention plans for students and assist in their implementation, including using appropriate resources and technology to promote development of critical thinking, problem solving, and pro-social behavior in students.
- Maintain data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress in district-provided platform.
- Provide data to school teams and participate in decisions about student progress.
- Analyze and collect data regarding student behaviors and recommend appropriate instructional modifications to develop responsible thinking and decision-making skills in students.
- Communicate behavior intervention plans between all involved parties, including students, administration, teachers, and parents.
- Participate in conferences and other meetings regarding student concerns.
- Participate in all teachers' meetings and MTSS Tier II/III meetings.
- Establish and maintain contact with community providers who work with students.
- Collaborate with the building's support staff to make referrals to mental health, substance abuse and medical providers for appropriate services.
- Be aware of social problems that affect the families and be able to help alleviate the problems that impact school behavior.
- Act as a positive role model for students and play an active role in the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support school-based planning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred and minimum of 20 hours of child development coursework.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with children and adolescents.
- Prior experience with school and/or community resources.
- Completion of Registered Behavior Technician training, provided by RPS 205.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate qualities aligned to our core values of Character, Communication, Collaboration and Continuous Improvement.
- Familiarity with behavior issues, school interventions, juvenile justice, wrap around and local resources is beneficial.

Work Calendar:
10 Months
Working Conditions:
Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
