Your impact:
Under the guidance of the School-Age Director, the School-Age Area Coordinator is responsible for organizing, delivering, and ensuring the quality of YMCA Before and After School and Adventure Camp programs for members, program participants, and the wider community. The School-Age Area Coordinator will directly supervise the Site and Group Leaders of the assigned programs. This position requires close collaboration with Youth Achievement leadership to ensure a unified program and experience for all participants.
What your day may look like:
No two days are the same in this role — but every day centers on supporting high-quality youth programs, developing staff, strengthening school and family partnerships, and ensuring sites operate safely, smoothly, and successfully.
- Maintain a strong on-site presence while supporting multiple program locations and daily operations
- Supervise, schedule, train, mentor, and develop frontline staff and Site Leads
- Conduct regular site visits to provide coaching, feedback, and operational support
- Lead meetings and one-on-one check-ins to support staff growth and accountability
- Create staff schedules and review timecards for accurate payroll processing
- Oversee curriculum implementation and ensure engaging, high-quality programming
- Build strong relationships with school leaders, teachers, families, and community partners
- Step in to provide on-site support or substitute coverage when staffing needs arise
- Manage supplies, inventory, budgets, and site resources effectively
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with state, agency, and YMCA requirements
- Represent programs at community events, job fairs, and outreach opportunities
- Support emergency preparedness, facility security, and safe program environments
- Travel between sites, meetings, and events as needed

Schedule & compensation: 2 positions
Positions 1 & 2:
Good Shepherd YMCA Full Time, Non-Exempt, up to 40 hours per week Monday-Friday, varies between 6:30 am - 5:30 pm $20.00 per hour
Work location:
This position may serve schools in these districts: RPS 205, Harlem 122, Winnebago and Pecatonica schools. Regardless of primary assignment, this position requires travel between sites.
Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma or GED required
- 1-2 years related experience in leadership in a childcare setting
- Experience in effectively managing a staff team
- YMCA Leader Team Leader certification preferred
- Proficient in everyday office technology with hands-on experience using computers and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail) or equivalent productivity tools
- Training required upon hire: IL Gateways Child Development Health & Safety, IL DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect/Mandated Reporter. Any additional certifications that are required by the state of Illinois
- Current Praesidium Academy training
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days
