Position

Title: Three and Four Year-Old Preschool Teacher – Part‑time

Location: Mary Queen of Heaven Preschool, Elmhurst

Schedule: Morning and/or Afternoons, Monday–Friday

Position Type: Elementary School Teaching / Early Childhood (Part‑time)

Position Availability: January 2026

Start Date (Projected): August 2025

Position Purpose

The teacher is considered a ministerial employee by working in a Catholic School and agrees to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. Teachers agree to play a substantial role in conveying the Catholic Church's message and carrying out its mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Seek an understanding of and implement the educational and spiritual philosophy and procedures of the local school;
  • Strictly observe the Code of Professional Ethics;
  • Instruct children, direct and guide learning throughout the day, and adjust instructional level to meet individual student needs;
  • Plan lessons, prepare materials, help individual students, read professional literature, serve on diocesan staff committees, attend faculty meetings, and confer with the principal regarding instructional and disciplinary issues;
  • Participate in all faculty meetings and prescribed in‑service training opportunities;
  • Attend teacher institutes as stipulated by the school and the Catholic Schools Office;
  • Complete Catholic Identity Formation Training and other required professional development from the Diocese of Joliet;
  • Supervise children and maintain discipline on and off the premises;
  • Be present when classes begin and remain in the classroom except for emergencies;
  • Know all information in each student’s cumulative folder;
  • Secure the principal’s approval for important communications with parents concerning school matters;
  • Encourage responsibility among students in conduct and behavior with peers and others outside the school community;
  • Contribute to the nurturing and advancement of the physical, mental, and spiritual well‑being of the students;
  • Make appropriate reports to the principal and parents regarding students’ educational growth and development;
  • Work with parents to assist them as primary educators of their children;
  • Communicate professionally with all constituents, including, but not limited to, school administration, pastors, parish priests, colleagues, students, parents, and prospective parents;
  • Use technology effectively to enhance student learning;
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the principal or pastor.
Education and Experience
  • Candidates must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or a valid out‑of‑state certificate from a state with which Illinois has reciprocity. Candidates may also be enrolled in an accredited program working toward professional licensure.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred but not required.
  • Must be familiar with best practices in Early Childhood Education.
Salary

Annual salary range: $31,509 – $57,705. Final salary will be determined by relevant teaching experience and education. Salary will be prorated based on date of hire and full‑time equivalency.

Benefits

Part‑time employees are paid personal leave days.

Physical Requirements

Required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and lift up to 20–30 pounds as needed. Work occurs in a standard office and school building environment and may include outdoor student activities.
