The Galva Public Library District's Board of Trustees is hiring an Assistant Library Director.
This is a full-time position, 30-38 hours a week, with a Monday evening rotation and Saturday expectation.
Assistant DirectorJob Duties
Be proficient in all aspects of the circulation system, and all daily activities relating to customer service.
Keep statistics weekly and monthly for circulation. Write and run reports from Blue Cloud Analytics. Provide the Director with statistical reporting for all circulation as needed and at the end of each month.
This position will be in charge of maintaining the Library’s social media presence, advertising Library events, marketing library events and engaging with the community we serve.
Be able to proficiently assist Patrons with technical issues, and any other inquiries/issues, while providing assistance from a reference position. Be familiar with all library equipment and technology and demonstrate knowledge as needed.
Balance petty cash drawer weekly; at the end of month balance drawer and figure deposit for Director.
Read the shelves and shelve items according to procedure daily.
Perform Library organizational activities including shelf straightening, book rotation and shelf rearrangement/shifting in all areas of the library. Delegate rotating and shifting duties to other Library staff as needed.
Weed materials in areas designated by Director, discard materials that are marked for discard and keep statistics of discards to report monthly. Perform other collection maintenance tasks as needed.
Work with RSA data reports to maintain a clean database including processing patron expirations, lost/damaged item billing and implement any other RSA systems requirements as needed.
Mend library materials when necessary.
Work with other staff members to plan adult events and programs.
Summer Reading Duties- The Assistant Director is in charge of the Adult Summer Reading Program
- Plan, setup and implement the Adult Summer Reading Program, including managing the day to day handling of the program
- Assist other staff members in all aspects of the Summer Reading program (Children and Adult Summer Reading)
This position is the Assistant FOIA/OMA Officer, the Assistant Director will need to do the online training annually.
This position is required fill in for the Director as needed and to act in the Director’s stead when needed.
Other duties as requested and assigned by the Library Director.
Education and ExperienceA Library Associate’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university plus five years of progressively responsible library administration experience including at least three years in a supervisory capacity, OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting on the basis of one year for each year of education.
Physical DemandsMust be able to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 50 pounds, moving library furniture and fixtures, going up and down stairs, being able to travel between the library and Programming Sites, and being on the floor.
BenefitsThis position is eligible for IMRF pension, 10 days of IMRF sick/personal leave and 20 hours of PLFAW time annually.
This position is eligible for 2 weeks of vacation, health and dental benefits.
