Job Summary

The Upward Bound (UB) program is a federally funded TRiO initiative that prepares eligible high school students for college admission and success. This position requires daily travel to RPS 205 East High School (Mon/Wed) and Auburn High School (Tue/Thu) to provide academic, personal, and career advising. When schools are closed and during the summer program, work is performed on the Rock Valley College campus.

The coordinator also supports enrichment activities, academic services, and program reporting. Study-Plus tutoring is held during lunch periods and from 3:30–5:50 p.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate Study-Plus tutoring, recruitment sessions, and student travel.
  • Meet with participants and parents regularly to monitor and assess the personal, academic needs, and progress of participants; develop a Student Educational Plan (SEP);
  • Share information with the lead teacher, tutors, and program director.
  • Assist in selecting and training lead teachers, tutors, and peer mentors.
  • Maintain student records in Blumen to support the Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Build positive relationships with teachers, parents, students, and community partners by consistently using tact and courtesy to communicate regularly throughout the course of work.
  • Refer students to appropriate school or community resources as needed.
  • Travel daily between high schools
  • Attend and participate in job-related training, workshops and conferences.
  • Work and travel outside of normal business hours and occasionally on weekends.
  • Daily travel to RPS 205 Auburn & East High School.
  • Regular attendance is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, social work, education, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Experience with low-income, disadvantaged students required.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must have reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience advising groups/individuals; TRiO or similar program experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in developmental educations programming preferred.
Work Environment / Physical Demands

Work is primarily performed offsite in high schools; office work occurs during closures and summer. Regularly requires standing, talking, hearing, reaching, and use of hands.
