Position: Staff Mechanical Engineer - ROCKFORD, TN

Plans, calculates, designs, develops, tests, and modifies experimental and/or operational mechanical concepts or subsystems.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical design and development of in‑house production automation systems, including CNC modifications, robotics, palletizing stations, and next‑generation vision inspection.
  • Provide technical leadership for mechanical design, layout, and execution of new products and processes.
  • Drive manufacturing automation projects from concept through design, build, validation, and production handoff.
  • Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to support evolving business and industry demands.
  • Develop, maintain, and release complete design documentation, specifications, and records in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Perform final equipment verification and validation prior to production release.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (scientists, manufacturing, controls, quality, operations, and suppliers) to improve processes and support new product introductions.
  • Investigate manufacturing process issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to reduce defect rates and improve yield.
  • Lead projects effectively by planning, prioritizing, and managing schedules, resources, and deliverables across multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively across all levels of the organization through strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

  • Mechanical Design Tools
    • Proficiency with 3D CAD software is required
    • Experience with Solid Works is preferred
  • Manufacturing & Layout
    • Equipment and process layout for manufacturing and automation environments
    • Application of ergonomic, safety, and efficiency principles in layout design
  • Process Improvement & Quality
    • Manufacturing process improvement methodologies (e.g., lean, continuous improvement)
    • Experience working within regulated quality systems and documentation requirements
  • Business & Project Acumen
    • Cost justification and return‑on‑investment (ROI) analysis
    • Project management of technical or capital projects
    • Capital project planning, budgeting, and cost estimation
  • Team Leadership & Mentoring
    • Strong leadership and team mentoring skills.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 to 8 years of progressive engineering experience, with demonstrated depth in mechanical design and automation.
  • Proven expertise in mechanical automation systems, including robotics, pick‑and‑place automation, assembly systems, and/or palletization.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross‑functional teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, including mentoring and guiding engineers and project teams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in design execution, documentation, and problem resolution.
  • Ability to manage complex technical responsibilities while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% as required to support projects, suppliers, or manufacturing sites.

The base pay range for this position is: $119,920 - $164,890

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
