Job Summary

The Student Loan Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the College's Federal Direct Loan and private/alternative loan programs in accordance with federal regulations, state requirements, institutional policies, and best practices. This position coordinates loan processing, borrower communications, reconciliation, default prevention, and related compliance activities while serving as a primary resource for students, staff, and external partners. The Student Loan Coordinator also supports Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4), financial literacy efforts, and ongoing regulatory and system changes related to student loan administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, families, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Advise students, families, and college personnel on student loan eligibility, borrowing limits, entrance and exit counseling requirements, enrollment changes, and related financial aid procedures.
  • Coordinate borrower communications and loan-related compliance activities, including entrance and exit counseling, enrollment monitoring, and other required notifications.
  • Review application information and supporting documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Federal Direct Loan and private/alternative loan programs, including application review, eligibility determination, loan origination, certification, awarding, disbursement, and required documentation.
  • Monitor student enrollment, satisfactory academic progress, borrowing limits, and other eligibility factors that affect loan processing and disbursement.
  • Reconcile Federal Direct Loans with COD, institutional financial records, the general ledger, and student accounts; resolve discrepancies in collaboration with accounting and other campus partners.
  • Coordinate G5 drawdowns and support cash management and reconciliation activities related to federal loan programs.
  • Present loan and financial aid information to individuals, small groups, or larger audiences as needed, including first-time borrower information sessions for students.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the College's default prevention and default management program, including delinquency review, cohort default report analysis, borrower outreach, and strategy development to reduce loan defaults.
  • Assist with the development and coordination of financial literacy programming.
  • Calculate, process, and monitor Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) in accordance with federal regulations, including required student notifications and coordination with Accounts Receivable to ensure timely return of funds.
  • Serve as the Financial Aid Office's subject matter expert for student loan programs and collaborate with Financial Aid staff to ensure accurate awarding, packaging, and administration of financial aid.
  • Monitor federal guidance, Dear Colleague Letters, Electronic Announcements, Federal Student Aid Handbook updates, and system resources to research regulatory changes, troubleshoot issues, test enhancements, and assist with configuration updates related to student loans and R2T4.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, program reviews, and compliance monitoring activities.
