Description
The Commodity Analyst is responsible for managing commodities to support production, inventory, quality, and cost objectives within an aerospace manufacturing environment. This role combines strategic sourcing, supplier management, procurement analysis, and material planning responsibilities to ensure continuity of supply, supplier performance, and long-term commodity strategies. The Commodity Analyst serves as the primary point of ownership for commodities and works cross-functionally with operations, engineering, quality, and suppliers to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
RequirementsMajor Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute commodity strategies that support business objectives for cost, quality, delivery, and inventory performance.
- Analyze market trends, supplier capabilities, pricing structures, and material availability to identify opportunities for cost savings and supply chain improvements.
- Lead supplier negotiations for pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, and long-term agreements.
- Evaluate and develop new sources of supply to reduce risk and improve supplier performance.
- Convert MRP requirements into purchase orders and manage procurement activities for commodities.
- Maintain and manage open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery and continuity of supply.
- Provide accurate delivery commitments to support manufacturing operations and customer requirements.
- Coordinate supplier-related quality issues, engineering changes, and product developments between internal departments and external suppliers.
- Lead efforts to resolve quality and delivery issues related to purchased materials, including corrective actions and supplier recovery plans.
- Partner with Quality and Engineering teams to address nonconforming materials and coordinate supplier returns when necessary.
- Maintain accurate ERP system data including lead times, safety stock levels, planning parameters, and order policies.
- Utilize MRP and planning tools to support production schedules and optimize inventory levels.
- Monitor and analyze supplier and inventory performance metrics including on time delivery, inventory, supplier quality, and cost performance.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for leadership regarding supplier performance, commodity risks, and sourcing strategies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to procurement, inventory management, and supply chain efficiency.
- Build strong supplier relationships to support long-term operational and strategic objectives.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in procurement, commodity management, supply chain, or purchasing within a manufacturing environment.
Competencies:
- Aerospace or highly regulated industry experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to manage supplier relationships and cross-functional projects effectively.
- Knowledge of inventory planning, supplier performance metrics, and strategic sourcing principles.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with aerospace materials, machined components, electronics, or raw material commodities.
- Familiarity with AS9100 or aerospace quality standards.
- APICS, CPSM, or related supply chain certifications preferred.
- Experience supporting lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
