Summary

The Process Chemist / Scientist I, Production (Chemistry) performs organic chemistry synthesis and manufacturing activities in a production environment supporting research and commercial products in the life sciences industry. The role involves executing manufacturing processes, analyzing raw materials and finished products, maintaining accurate inventory and documentation, troubleshooting manufacturing issues, improving processes, and supporting new product and process development. A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related discipline is required.

New graduates with relevant laboratory experience may be considered. Preferred qualifications include 2-3 years of manufacturing experience, a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry, and 1-3 years of experience with polymer chemistries.

Responsibilities
  • Perform organic chemistry syntheses in a manufacturing environment.
  • Interpret written production documents and execute manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of raw materials, WIP, and finished products.
  • Produce and analyze reagents, components, and finished products according to manufacturing plans.
  • Use advanced ERP functions for inventory and manufacturing activities.
  • Analyze and interpret scientific data to support manufacturing decisions.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments and internal/external teams.
  • Participate in team activities, including conflict resolution, team building, and scheduling.
  • Identify manufacturing problems, evaluate variables, conduct experiments, and recommend process corrections.
  • Maintain accurate manufacturing and product development records using batch data records, notebooks, customer reports, work orders, and other documentation.
  • Evaluate, revise, and create process documents.
  • Develop efficient, reproducible, and high-quality manufacturing processes and documentation.
  • Ensure process documents meet quality standards.
  • Improve product quality through effective manufacturing processes and quality testing.
  • Participate in investigations and conduct experiments to address product or process failures.
  • Develop and execute manufacturing schedules with planning and purchasing teams.
  • Coordinate team resources to optimize time and materials.
  • Participate in problem-solving teams and cross-functional activities.
  • Participate in New Product Development and product/process development activities.
  • Collaborate with R&D and Manufacturing Sciences.
  • Support production and large-scale manufacturing procedures.
  • Work with EH&S to ensure safety guidelines are followed.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related chemistry discipline.
  • Relevant academic laboratory experience; new graduates may be considered.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently when required.
