Position: MANAGER OF COMMUNITY VIOLENCE PREVENTION

NATURE OF WORK

This position is responsible for assisting the Executive Director and Deputy Director of the Mayor's Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention (the Office) in the coordination, sustainment and expansion of the Office's Community Violence Prevention effort across all youth related strategies, specifically at the intersection of domestic, sexual, youth and community violence. Work is done in a data driven, community centered methodology across a continuum from pre-prevention to re-entry from incarceration, within the Mayor's Office.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

The Manager is responsible for assisting the Executive Director and Deputy Director of the Mayor's Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention in the planning, organizing and coordinating of the goals and objectives of the Mayor's Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention. Work involves day to day oversite, coordination and management of community violence prevention and intervention efforts and staff, with significant coordination across multiple City departments, grants, not for profits organizations, justice system, grassroots organizations, schools and community wide organizations to complete the goals of the office.

Work also involves the identification, procurement and management of all funding sources, including local, state and federal grants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (These essential duties are only illustrative.)

Oversees the successful identification, procurement, deployment and management of all community violence and/or youth related initiative funding sources, including local, state and federal grants.

Maintains and strengthens a community wide effort partnering with stakeholders to sustain and organize a working collaboration which conduct need assessments, develop projects and outcomes, and implement solutions in a comprehensive and intersectional way to end community violence.

Oversees and manages grants related to youth violent crime prevention and intervention secured through the Office that are not stationed out of the Rockford Family Peace Center.

Oversees and manages youth related Multi-Disciplinary teams over which the Office is lead or co-lead, including all ancillary teams and projects deployed from these efforts, including Human Trafficking and Educator Summit initiatives.

Develops and maintains collaboration with current recipients of grants focusing on addressing youth violence and community violence stemming from exposure to domestic and sexual violence to leverage resources and support their efforts.

Assists in the direction the completion of regular assessments of youth and community violence prevention and intervention efforts to ensure the effectiveness of city-wide policies, protocols, support, and response to survivors consistent with best practices.

Identifies and securing funding sources to support, expand, and enhance the programs and services designed to raise awareness and improve the response to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, youth violence and community violence.

Periodically report to various entities and organizations, as directed by the Executive Director, on the Office's efforts to combat the problems of community violence.

Assists in the development and implementation of training programs and presentations to law enforcement agencies, stakeholders, community agencies and community groups.

Maintains reasonable and predictable attendance.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision and direction of the Executive Director who reviews work for effectiveness, timeliness and for overall results achieved.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position will supervise all youth related grant project managers, justice related pilot programs, and community violence program related City of Rockford staff hired through the Mayor's Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention. Exercises supervision over subordinate managers, technical and program staff support engaged in carrying out the responsibilities of the Mayor's Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention. Supervisory responsibilities include evaluating work, resolving problems, and performing other supervisory functions.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed primarily in an office setting, although work activities require leading and attending meetings and conferences throughout the city and state, visiting multiple locations and inspections on occasion.

SUCCESS FACTORS (KSAs)

Thorough knowledge of domestic violence sexual violence, youth violence and community violence prevention and intervention efforts, including best practice prevention and intervention efforts and strategies at the intersection of education access and justice involved youth.
