About the Celebrate Recovery and Counseling Pastor
Edgewood Baptist Church is committed to living on mission by glorifying God and making disciples of Jesus in our families, among our neighbors, and among the nations. The Celebrate Recovery and Counseling Pastor leads the Celebrate Recovery ministry alongside the Celebrate Recovery Leadership T.E.A.M. to help provide freedom and forgiveness through the gospel of Jesus Christ, and also provides personal, marital, and family counseling for people in the congregation.
The Celebrate Recovery and Counseling Pastor’s responsibilities include:
Duties & Responsibilities- Collaborate to achieve ministry goals and ensure all components function effectively.
- Recruit, equip, and provide pastoral care for Celebrate Recovery leaders and participants.
- Regularly engage in Friday night programs and champion the ministry within the church.
- Build relationships with local recovery organizations and the broader community.
- Develop and implement processes for counseling, recommending Christ-centered resources.
- Partner closely with the Celebrate Recovery Leadership T.E.A.M. and Administrative Pastor, including budget planning.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and address issues promptly as they arise.
- Stay updated on best practices and new developments in Celebrate Recovery (nationally and locally).
- Each year, read one book and attend one conference or seminar (online or in person) related to this position.
- Lead Professional Development time at an Edgewood All Staff meeting once per year.
The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Celebrate Recovery and Counseling Pastor:
Education and Experience- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Bible school or seminary graduate preferred.
- Ordained or is willing to be ordained.
- Understands addiction and Celebrate Recovery; teaches biblical, recovery-focused lessons.
- Experienced and competent counselor who shepherds with grace and truth.
- Strong organizational and task management skills; detail-oriented and efficient.
- Collaborative team player with exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Effective verbal and written communicator with basic computer proficiency.
- Aligns with Edgewood’s beliefs, mission, values, and vision.
- Born-again believer with a clear testimony of saving faith, growing in Christlikeness.
- Called and gifted for pastoral ministry and counseling; meets biblical qualifications for an Elder (1 Timothy 3:2-7; Titus 1:5-9) and exhibits the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians
5). - Demonstrates the Fruit of the Spirit and serves as a strong, reliable spiritual role model.
- Prioritizes family and cultivates healthy, God-honoring relationships.
- Maintains integrity, sets appropriate boundaries, and is open about personal growth and recovery.
- Aligns with church doctrine, fulfills membership obligations, and passes background/reference checks.
