Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process and nursing trends. The role includes managing technology, financial resources, and human resources within the institution's philosophy. Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided is maintained to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs. The plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures are implemented effectively.
The RN modifies the plan of care based on continuous evaluation. Taking responsibility for patient and employee safety is crucial by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication with others is essential to resolve issues directly and privately when necessary. Constructive feedback is offered to assist in the professional development of peers. The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
Identifying personal learning needs and taking initiative to begin appropriate solutions is expected. Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is mandatory.
