Maintenance Technician

Join Oakbrook Corporation as a Maintenance Technician at Wildberry Village, a 120-unit multi-family community in Rockford, IL. In this role, you'll be a key contributor to both the physical upkeep of the community and the resident experience. What It's Like to Be a Maintenance Technician In this role, your days will be a mix of hands-on maintenance work and resident interaction. From troubleshooting HVAC systems and completing repairs to ensuring apartments are move-in ready, you'll play a direct role in creating a safe, comfortable, and welcoming community. You'll work both independently and as part of a team, balancing daily work orders with preventative maintenance and property upkeep.

To succeed in this role, you bring a balance of technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills. You take initiative, communicate clearly, and approach each task with a service mindset.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnosis, repair, and replacement of:
    • HVAC systems, boilers, and related equipment
    • Plumbing and electrical systems
    • Appliances and general building components
  • Complete and manage work orders in a timely and professional manner
  • Turn vacant units efficiently, ensuring readiness for new residents
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for larger repairs and projects
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance, including:
    • Grounds care and common area upkeep
    • Safety checks and inspections
    • Trash and recycling management
  • Assist with maintaining budgets for unit turns, repairs & maintenance, and capital projects
  • Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies and report safety concerns immediately
  • Provide support during on-call emergencies
  • Uphold and demonstrate Oakbrook's core values in all interactions

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience in residential or multi-family maintenance preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general construction
    • Carpentry, painting, and appliance repair
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with residents, vendors, and team members
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Basic Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Vocational or trade certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must supply personal hand tools required for day-to-day work
