Position Summary
Part‑time Chaplain position (2‑4 hours per week) based in Bourbonnais, IL. Bilingual Spanish is required. The role involves providing spiritual support and counseling to employees and their families in a remote field setting.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities- Serves as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose.
- Interacts with companies, employees, and the community in a manner that exhibits character through personal and spiritual disciplines.
- Conducts regular visits to company worksites (usually weekly) to build trust and friendship with employees, motivated by Christian faith.
- Visits employees or immediate family members at hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, family residences, or other sites to provide care and support.
- Provides confidential pastoral discussions for a range of issues including family matters, divorce, serious illness, care of aging parents, death and grief recovery, parenting, financial situations, debt discussions, budgeting, and other life challenges.
- Provides referral service and coordinates specialized assistance for employees and/or their families with specific needs.
- May assist in planning or attending funerals for employees or family members, offering follow‑up support during the grief period.
- May make jail visits to employees and their families.
- Works with companies to deliver notifications of death and serious injuries to families and other employees, encouraging those impacted by tragedies.
- May provide post‑termination care for laid‑off or terminated employees to support a smooth transition to new employment.
- May facilitate, but not lead, spiritual enrichment activities, preferring employee‑sponsored events when feasible.
- Provides literature and resources to assist employees with life issues upon request.
- Represents companies to clients/customers during appropriate ministry events, such as serious illness, accidents, traumatic events, and funerals.
- Participates in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and chaplain team roles.
- With Executive Director of Operations permission, responds positively and assertively to other duties requested by executive leadership, within the scope of the Letter of Agreement.
- Ability to collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary, interfaith group while accepting diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
- Strong listening and interpersonal skills for engaging clients, employees, and their families.
- Proficiency in delivering community presentations and handling stressful family interactions with dignity.
- Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle aligned with MCHAP’s ministry values; fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible and ability to apply it appropriately.
- Demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy, patience, and courtesy with diverse groups, while maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships and providing exceptional customer service.
- Sound administrative judgment on sensitive, confidential issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with leadership, colleagues, employees, and families.
- Emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and related stresses.
- Analytical skills to identify problems, define objectives, and follow up on solutions.
- Ability to interpret and uphold policies and procedures relevant to the position.
- Computer proficiency using Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or other equivalent software; aptitude for learning new technologies.
- Active state driver’s license and state‑minimum auto insurance for the states where clients are serviced.
- Must pass a pre‑employment background check.
Work is performed remotely in the field with varying worksite environments including manufacturing, hospitals, office buildings, and funeral homes. Conditions of temperature, noise, and light may vary between sites.
Location & Work TypeRemote field assignment based in Bourbonnais, IL. The role is part‑time (2‑4 hours per week) and requires bilingual Spanish fluency.
